1 John 5:13a (NASB)

These things I have written to you who believe
in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know
that you have eternal life.

Song Of The Day

Bible Commentary

1 John 5:13 is a Bible verse in the New Testament that underscores the importance of the written Word.

The passage in 1 John 5 discusses the importance of believing in the Son of God because acceptance of Christ means a reverence toward God and His commands. It also discusses how our faith is the victory that overcomes the world.

If someone had invented a product that cured the common cold, but no one knew about it, what good would it do? If you’re about to go broke, but there is a bag full of hundred dollar bills hidden deep underground in your backyard, how would that help you?

1 John 5:13 speaks to those who believe in the name of the Son of God. As believers of Jesus Christ, we have already accepted the most sacred gift ever given—God’s only Son Who paid the price for our sins.

But that isn’t just a one-time event. Our salvation is ongoing. Eternal life isn’t just a one-time gift. It is eternal.

In the Greek “eternal” means: perpetual (also used of past time, or past and future as well); everlasting. Webster’s defines it like this: having infinite duration.

We have access to a vast wealth of Kingdom resources in Jesus Christ. But we don’t know about this great wealth unless we read for ourselves and/or hear the Word of God. It’s all in there.

In fact, John 1:1 says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

That is why the Bible is so important. Not only does it tell us about all the Kingdom wealth available to us, how to overcome and be victorious in life, but it is God Himself—the only book ever written that is Supernatural with the Presence of God.

Unlocking the Truth - Feast on the Word of God

The word “perpetual” also speaks to the fluid movement of the Holy Spirit—never stagnant, but always fresh, alive and active in us. But we become deaf and blind to His work if we ignore God’s written Word.

We must be fed with that which is alive, so our hearts, minds and bodies can receive eternal (ongoing / perpetual) life.

Look at 1 John 5:13 again,

These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.”

The gifts He offers from His Word are FAR greater than we have understood or ever imagined. May He grant us supernatural wisdom and understanding to accept that which He makes available to us through Jesus Christ.

Study the Bible verse of 1 John 5:13 to drink in the Word of God and rejoice in the eternal life of Christ.
