Stations of the Cross

Bible History - Stations Of The Cross

Enjoy a daily dose of God’s Word at Verse of the Day.

God is doing amazing things through this 19-story free-standing cross located on Interstate 40 in Groom, Texas. Ten million people pass by every year, and 1,000 stop each day. It is 190 fee tall and can be seen from twenty miles away.

It took eight months to complete, and it weighs 1,250 tons or 2 ½ million pounds. Construction of the cross frame was done in two shops in Pampa, Texas by more than 100 welders and erected in July of 1995.

Stationed at the foot of the cross are life-sized sculptures made from metal that depict the events of the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

My daughter, sister and mother took a road trip to see it in person on our way to visit my mother’s historic homeplace in Hart, Texas. We had a wonderful time together, viewing each of the bronze sculptures and taking in the amazing scene of this one-of-a-kind cross.

Millions of people have come from all over the world to view the bronze sculptures of Jesus’ journey to the Cross. We highly recommend you visit in person if you get the chance.
