Exodus 14:14 (NIV)

The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.

Song Of The Day

Bible Commentary

Exodus 14:14 is a Bible verse where Moses reassures the people of Israel about the strong arm of the Lord during their flight from the Egyptian army. These are amazing words from one of the most miraculous events in history.

The people of Israel had just fled Egypt. God had used Moses to deliver His people from the bondage of Pharaoh in the land of Egypt where they were slaves. You might remember the plagues the Lord used to reveal to the Egyptians exactly Who He was, by delivering His chosen people from their hands.

However, after the Israelites departed with the spoils of gold and silver of Egypt, Pharaoh changed his mind about letting them go, and he and his officials pursued them with the intent to destroy them.

Exodus 14:10
As Pharaoh approached, the Israelites looked up, and there were the Egyptians, marching after them. They were terrified and cried out to the Lord.

After they cried out to the Lord, they complained to Moses and blamed him for their predicament. But the Lord used Moses to assure them that He would once again deliver them.

Exodus 14:13-14
Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. 14 The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”

Have you ever followed the Lord’s instructions and did something you felt He called you to do, and then it seemed like all hell broke loose? That’s what we see here with the people of Israel. It is in times like these we might question God or our own ability to hear His voice.

Doubts creep in and questions arise. We are dismayed and wonder what in the world we have gotten ourselves into? We expected blessings and prosperity, but instead we ended up here!
