Verse Of The Day Isaiah 14:12 (NASB) How you have fallen from heaven, O star of the morning, son of the dawn! You have been cut down to the earth, You who have weakened the nations! Song Of The Day

Bible Commentary

Isaiah 14:12 is a Bible verse from the Old Testament describing the fall of Lucifer from Heaven.

In Heaven, Satan was an angel named Lucifer, and he was one of the three archangels (Michael and Gabriel) mentioned in the Scriptures. Not only was he an archangel, but he was also a very wise and beautiful angel (Ezekiel 28:11 You had the seal of perfection, Full of wisdom and perfect in beauty).

God established Lucifer as the angel of worship.

Ezekiel 28:13-14 The workmanship of your timbrels and pipes Was prepared for you on the day you were created) and to dwell in the throne room of Heaven. You were the anointed cherub who covers; I established you; You were on the holy mountain of God; You walked back and forth in the midst of fiery stones).

Lucifer seemed to have it all, a prestigious job and godly wisdom and beauty, but that wasn’t enough. He did not want to be second fiddle; he wanted to be equal with God.

Ezekiel 14: 13-14 But you said in your heart, ‘I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God, And I will sit on the mount of assembly In the recesses of the north.  ‘I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.’

Lucifer no longer wants to worship; he wants to be worshipped the way God is worshipped. The Bible tells us in Revelation 12:9 that there were angles who did just that, and they were also cast out of Heaven.

And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

Isn’t it interesting that God created Lucifer to be in charge of worship, but his desire was to be worshipped?

Unlocking the Truth – How could you, Lucifer?

Lucifer, you had it all! You were part of God’s top three! You were in charge of the main thing Heaven was designed for— WORSHIP! Yet you threw it all away — How could you?

It’s easy to ask that question “how could you”, but then we have to look ourselves in the mirror.

God has given us all unique gifts and talents, yet many of us are not doing what God has created us to do. Just like Lucifer, we often choose our fleshly desires over God’s spiritual calling.

As Christians, we are in a literal day-to-day battle with our flesh versus the Spirit and what God has designed us to become.

Galatians 5:17 For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please.

The Bible say that God wants to give us the desires of our heart, but He cannot give us desires that are in opposition to His purpose. We have to die to our flesh and live by the Spirit (Romans 8:13).

As with Lucifer, God has designed us with a great purpose in His Kingdom, but it is our decision whether or not to assume that purpose. We have the same choice as Lucifer and the angels who followed him: serve God and reside in His Kingdom or serve the flesh and Satan and be cut off from the Kingdom.

Prayer for Godly Wisdom

Father I ask that you reveal any and all fleshly desires that I have and help me to die to those desires so that I may serve you and your calling upon my life. Help me to see myself as you do and not the way Satan says I am. Through your son Jesus Christ, I am made whole and am perfect in Your eyes. Give me Your wisdom and Your heart to further the Kingdom of God and bring honor and glory to Your name. I ask these things in Jesus’ Name. Amen!
