God is our Husband Who we betrayed, and He turned away from us for a moment. When we feel alone during the dark times in our lives, it gives us a small glimpse of how God feels when His people abandon Him.

But praise God for Jesus Christ, our Saviour! He promises to gather us with great compassion, according to Isaiah 54:7.

“Compassion” in Hebrew means: the womb (as cherishing the fetus); maiden, damsel, tender love, mercy.

It is fascinating that He regards us like a child, and protects us like the womb covers the fetus. The baby in the womb is surrounded by water, but he doesn’t drown; he can breathe through his belly. God gives him breath.

And so, we are at times surrounded by the deep sorrows of a storm in our lives and it feels like we’re drowning, and yet like the fetus, He gives us breath.  He rescues us like a damsel in distress because we are His bride, or maiden in need of rescue.

Cultivate Faithfulnes

Because we are the bride of Christ (Ephesians 5:23), we are to be faithful to our Husband. Isaiah 54:5 says,

“For your husband is your Maker, Whose name is the Lord of hosts; And your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel, Who is called the God of all the earth.”

He is deeply in love with His bride, and He is a jealous God (Exodus 20:5). As we turn to Him, submitting ourselves to His love and compassion, He gathers us with tender love,  comforts us and strengthens us.

Hebrews 4:16 says, “Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

He gathers us with great compassion and mercy, as Isaiah 54:7 says. He longs for our faithful love and devotion, as a husband toward his bride. Study the Bible verse of Isaiah 54:7, and invite the God of the universe into your heart, mind and soul to rescue you.
