Bible Commentary

John 11:26 is a Bible verse in the New Testament where Jesus is expounding upon a very important truth and asking Martha, a dear friend, a very important question about life and death.

This verse is an astonishing statement spoken by Jesus, the Son of God while he was on earth as a man. It was spoken during a very serious time. Lazarus, Martha’s brother, whom Jesus dearly loved had passed away.

Though Jesus was told about Lazarus’ illness, He chose to wait 2 days before going to him, even though the request was for Him to come quickly. He told the disciples that Lazarus’ sickness was not to end in death, but for the glory of God (John 11:4).

When Lazarus died, his sisters Martha and Mary were distraught and probably somewhat hurt and confused because Jesus didn’t arrive in time to heal him.

Martha said as much to Jesus when He arrived, yet she believed that whatever Jesus asked God, that God would give Him.

That’s when Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?” (Luke 11:25-26)
What a profound statement! And a very intense and probing question!

Martha confessed her trust in Him as the Son of God. Moments later, Lazarus was walking among them, very much alive!

Certainly, God was glorified (honored) because many of the Jews believed on Jesus when they saw what He had done.

Imagine what is possible—even today—for those who simply believe what Jesus said. Do you believe in everlasting life?

Unlocking the Truth - Everlasting Life

Note what Jesus said in John 11:26, “and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die.” What victories we can have by living in Jesus, as He instructed.

John 15:7 says, “If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.”

If we abide in Him by reading the Bible regularly, we are literally living in the resurrection and the life.

There is no death in Jesus Christ. God’s Word, the Bible, is God Himself (John 1:1). Let Him remove your fear of death.

He conquered death, hell and the grave. Death was swallowed up in His victory (1 Corinthians 15:54).

Open yourself up to the victory of Jesus Christ. He is life, not death. You do not have to be afraid of dying.

Jesus said in John 11:26, “Everyone who lives and believes in me will never die.”

The Greek meaning for the word “die” is: to die (literally or figuratively), be dead, death; away (of place, time or relation; literally or figuratively).

To be dead is to be away, separated from a place, time or relation (person). With Christ as our Saviour, we are never apart from Him. He is one with the body.

1 Corinthians 10:17 says, “For we being many are one bread, and one body: for we are all partakers of that one bread.” Bread is referring to the body of Jesus from the practice of Communion.

God is not limited by time and space, nor relation. Ephesians 4:4 says, “There is one body, and one Spirit…”

Though we may not have continual awareness of this unity, the Bible says it exists in the Spirit, and that God is gathering together all things in Christ, both which are in heaven and on earth (Ephesians 1:10).

There is no dividing line, no death in Jesus Christ. You have everlasting life in Him, the resurrection and the life. Study the Bible verse of John 11:26 for yourself and pursue abundant life, with no fear of death.
