Bible Commentary

John 15:3 is a Bible verse where Jesus is declaring His disciples clean. It seems as though the most challenging thing Jesus did in His ministry was imparting the truth to a people who had a very small faith. He had life-changing teachings to share, but many times it fell on deaf ears because they wouldn’t believe Him.

Imagine you are the Son of the Living God Who came to earth to impart the love of the Father to the world, and they didn’t recognize you or believe you.  Jesus had great self-control and patience. The magnitude of His love was far greater than His challenges with people.

Jesus states a vitally important truth about His disciples in John 15:3. It is imperative that they believe it so they can fulfill their life’s purpose as part of His great plan.

He Knows Our Doubts

We all struggle with self-doubts and nagging insecurities. Jesus’ disciples were no different. Even though they had been hand-picked by Jesus Himself, that wasn’t enough to eliminate their insecurities about themselves—who they were and what their life’s purpose was.

All of us wrestle with this at some point in our lives. In the chapter John 15, Jesus was using the analogy of Himself as a vine and the disciples as the branches. In John 15:5 He says, “I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.”

Everything Jesus said has value. He knows we have insecurities and doubts, and He continually tries to penetrate our walls of fear and doubt with His truth. But we must participate in the process by believing what He tells us in His Word.

Unlocking the Truth – Perfect Love

Jesus said in John 15:3 that we are already clean–not after we confess a list of sins, not after we do better, not after we figure it out, not after we do everything right. We are already clean because of the Word He has spoken to us.

As believers, we have accepted Jesus Christ. We accept His written Word. John 1:1 says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

If we accept Jesus Christ, we accept His Word because they are one and the same. That’s why we can be reading the Bible, and it speaks to us supernaturally, like a light bulb shining into the very depths of our soul.

He is the Word, and He makes us clean. The Greek meaning for “clean” is: clear, pure.

In Jesus Christ, we are pure and clear just like Christ. His Holy Spirit dwells within us.

Christ in Us

God sees us through the filter of Christ, so what He sees and hears from us is pure and clean. Our lives can be transformed when we fully accept and believe this truth. We have a righteous reflection in Jesus Christ.

1 John 4:18 says, “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love.”

If we are continually walking in the fear of insecurity, we are not perfected in love. He has so much love to give, but our walls of fear and doubt get in the way. Commit your way to Him, believe Him and He will remove your fear and doubt.

Psalm 34:4 says, “I sought the Lord, and He answered me, And delivered me from all my fears.”

Study the Bible verse of John 15:3 to believe once and for all you are clean in Jesus Christ, so He can perfect you in His love.
