Bible Commentary

Are you like me? When something goes wrong you immediately start looking for ways to fix it? Many times in my life I have done everything humanly possible to fix something, only to see each attempt fail.

In Matthew 11:28, Jesus addresses people like me. He says, are you tired of doing things on your own? Has the burden weighed you down? Oppressed you?

He goes on to say that once we come to Him, He will give us rest.

Trying to do anything without Jesus guiding us is like being on a long journey without GPS or a map to guide the way. We know where we are and where we want to go, but we drift along not knowing what path to take to reach our destination.

We find ourselves going from path to path looking for the right way but eventually we find that we’re going in circles, wearing ourselves out mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually.

Jesus doesn’t say, I will give you an immediate answer. What He says is, I will give you rest. Relax and know that together, we will get through this situation. There is no need for you to carry this burden on your own.

When you find yourself trying to handle the weight of something by yourself, study Matthew 11:28, give it to Jesus and He will give you rest and peace of mind.
