1.  Constant Prayer

    1 Thessalonians 5:17 – pray without ceasing.

We must talk with God continually! We don’t have to pray long elaborate prayers. Sometimes the best prayer can simply be Jesus help me or Father thank You! As we go throughout our day, short simple prayers keep us connected to God and keep the little foxes from getting in.

2.  Reading God’s Word

Hebrews 4:12 – For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

The word of God is Living and Active and Sharper than any two-edge sword. Reading our Bible is our mighty weapon against Satan and his little foxes.

In Matthew 4:6 Satan misuses the Word of God to try and tempt Jesus. Satan knows scripture and he will misuse it against us if we are not prepared. To stay in God’s peace, we must consistently read, study and memorize His Word. If we don’t, we can be tricked into believing a lie and allow our peace to be removed from us.

3.  Guard Your Heart

Proverbs 4:23 – Above everything else guard your heart, because from it flow the springs of life.

Guard your heart, because from it flow the springs of life. This sounds amazing! But what does it mean? How do we guard our heart?

Every time we give in to a fleshly desire, we let a little fox in and it slowly chips away at our peace. God wants us to be happy and enjoy life, but the only way we can know true happiness and contentment is through Him.

Deuteronomy 12:7 – There also you and your households shall eat before the LORD your God, and rejoice in all your undertakings in which the LORD your God has blessed you.

If we look to God for our happiness in all that we do, He will bless us. Keeping our eyes upon Him and walking according to His will for us allows us to live in His peace.

4.  The Holy Spirit

The mightiest weapon we have is the Holy Spirit. It is literally God living inside of us, guiding and teaching us.

John 14:25-27 – These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you. 26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. 27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

John 16:12-14 – I have many more things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. 13 But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come. 14 He will glorify Me, for He will take of Mine and will disclose it to you.

Just think, we have access to God Himself through the Holy Spirt! As we pray, the Holy Spirit speaks to God for us. As we read the Bible, the Holy Spirit will reveal the meaning to us. As we look for direction He will guide us.

All of this is possible, but we have to be in tune with God to hear the Holy Spirit. He will not yell at us, He will gently guide us with thoughts and whispers. The Bible tells us that God is not in the noisiness and distractions of the world; He is the soft voice in our heart.

Keep the little foxes out. Give all of yourself to God and He will give you peace which surpasses all comprehension.
