Bible Commentary

Philippians 4:13 is a famous Bible verse in the New Testament that has strengthened the people of God for generations.

Have you ever wondered what your true calling is, why you were created, or what God’s Plan is for your Life?

At some time in our life, we have all asked those questions. Philippians 4:13 tells us we can do all things through Christ, but what is it we’re supposed to do?

I believe we have 2 callings.

Our First Calling God Gives to All of Us

Matthew 22:36-40 – “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” 37 And He said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the great and foremost commandment. 39 The second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets.”

Matthew 28:18-2018 And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

So our first calling is very clear: Love God, Love Others and Tell Others!

Our Second Calling is Unique to Us

Romans 12:4-8 – For just as we have many members in one body and all the members do not have the same function, so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, each of us is to exercise them accordingly: if prophecy, according to the proportion of his faith;if service, in his serving; or he who teaches, in his teaching; or he who exhorts, in his exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.

We all have gifts, talents, strengths that are unique to each of us, so our second calling is based on those.

The challenge might be that we don’t know what our strengths are. Maybe the strength God wants to use is currently a weakness. Our second calling can be harder to discover. God has to mold us and prepare us…make us ready.
