Bible Commentary

Psalm 103:2-3 is a popular Bible passage reminding us of the Lord’s benefits toward us.

Because of the fall of human kind, it is easier to see the things we don’t like about our lives than the things we do like. Our humanness is naturally drawn to the negative, about ourselves and others.

As believers in Jesus Christ, we make strides toward living in the Spirit as we leave behind our old ways of living in the flesh. This is how we bless the Lord, as King David writes in Psalm 103:2.

When we see the word “benefit” we might think about the benefits of a job from an employer. We don’t usually associate the Lord and this word, which in Hebrew means: treatment, recompense or reward.

However, King David reminds us to forget not all His benefits. If we were to wake up tomorrow morning with only the things we thanked God for today, what would we have?

Sometimes, it takes a real “wake-up call” to realize the value of the things in our lives—people and things. We might not recognize them as benefits until we wake up one day, and they’re gone. Forget not all His benefits.

When the dark cloud of negativity departs from our hearts, we feel refreshed and renewed—in mind, body and soul, which brings us to Psalm 103:3.

Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases

Whether we realize it or not, we have power over our own health. Diseases of the mind and heart spill over into the body.
