Bible Commentary

Psalm 24:5 is a Bible verse in the Book of Psalms where David is speaking of the favor and prosperity that are ours in Jesus Christ. You might ask, how do I know he is talking about me?

Let’s first take a look at the verses prior to this one, Psalm 24:3-4:

Who may ascend into the hill of the Lord?
And who may stand in His holy place?
4 He who has clean hands and a pure heart,
Who has not lifted up his soul to falsehood
And has not sworn deceitfully.”

First of all, the person who is able to receive these blessings has clean hands and a pure heart.

Some Hebrew meanings of “clean” in verse 4 are: innocent, blameless, clean, clear, guiltless. The Hebrew meanings of the word “pure” in verse 4 are similar: beloved, pure, clean, clear.

As humans, we were born into a cursed world because of sin; we were born sinners. None of us are innocent, blameless, clean or clear on our own. That’s why God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, who was both God and man, to earth to live a guiltless, innocent and blameless life on our behalf. God sent Him to be a substitute for each one of us.

If we have accepted God’s gift of His Son to be our substitute, then we can be confident that we are clean and holy in Him. He is our righteousness.

Psalm24.5 He will receive blessing from the Lord

If you are a believer in Christ and have accepted Him as your Saviour, you can be confident that you are the one spoken of here in Psalm 24:4-5. With Jesus Christ living in us, we take on His attributes, His qualities. We may not feel holy or innocent, but in Christ, we are precisely that and are becoming more so each day we follow Him.

God sees His Son as a covering over our life, over all our human imperfections. We must choose to believe the truth, even when our feelings don’t support the truth.
