Bible Commentary

Psalm 36:10 is a Bible verse from the Old Testament that is a prayer of King David.

David’s prayer in Psalm 36 starts out by talking about the transgression of the wicked. No doubt, in David’s years and experiences he had witnessed both evil and good in men, just as you and I have.

The evil in the world gets so much more exposure than the good. Unfortunately, it “sells” better than good news because our human nature seems to be drawn to it. It is easier to float downstream than to swim upstream.

After David expresses his heart about the wicked, he immediately turns his attention to the mercy of the Lord. He brings God’s attention to His Own mercy and faithfulness. In Psalm 36:10 he pleads with God not to forget His faithfulness to those who know Him and to the upright in heart.

There were a number of occasions where Moses interceded for the children of Israel and asked God not to destroy them. Though God is slow to anger, there is a line that once it is crossed, can be devastating.

Noah witnessed this, as well as Moses and King David. If we only look to what we know are His truth and commands of righteousness, we can also recognize His judgments in the world today.

Notice in Psalm 36:10 he says, “Oh, continue Your lovingkindness to those who know You…”

Unlocking the Truth – Just Be with Him

In other words, those who know Him already have access to and receive His lovingkindnesses. We can get so wrapped up in our day-to-day busyness that we don’t even recognize them. What a tragedy!

That’s why it is so important to take a day of rest and focus solely on worshipping the Lord. When we take time to reflect upon our week and look for Him in our lives, we find Him. We see things to be grateful for.

We must stop and take time to just be with Him…to bask in His Presence, not just for our sakes, but for His. He craves our companionship–the faithful love of His bride.

Those who do this know Him, as Psalm 36:10 says. They can be assured that He will continue His lovingkindness toward them. What a beautiful blessing!

And not only that, but He gives His righteousness to the upright in heart. In other words, for those who seek Him He blesses with more. Those who do not seek Him may continue to float downstream and find themselves in the stench of muddy waters.

If you find yourself in muddy waters, call out to Jesus Christ. His cross offers mercy to all. Come running and don’t look back. Submit yourself to Him, and the covering of His precious blood will shelter you from the wrath of God and the judgement in the world.

His hand will reach down and rescue you from the filth and restore you to His Kingdom. Psalm 36:9 says, “For with You is the fountain of life; In Your light we see light.”

Don’t give up and don’t give in. He rescues those who call out to Him. He brings life to the fallen and brings light to the dark. You can know Him and be upright in heart, in an instant. How?

Surrender.
