Bible Commentary

Psalm 37:11 is a Bible verse that gives a clear picture of the rewards of the meek, those who follow Jesus Christ.

When I hear the word “meek” I immediately think of Jesus Christ. He was the perfect example of meek, which means “power under control.” Some Hebrew meanings are: gentle, needy, saintly, humble and poor.

There were times when He allowed His zeal to show through, like when He overturned the money changers’ tables or when He confronted the Pharisees about their hypocrisy, but most of the time it was His gentleness that was shown to the world.

It is our human nature to react according to our flesh, our human instincts that we were born with. Meekness is a learned art for the followers of Christ by yielding to the gentle molding and shaping of His hand.

As we walk with Christ, He gives us the ability to use His power to express His righteousness. Most of the time, it is a gradual process so we might not immediately recognize it, but there are times when we feel a breakthrough of His righteousness in a particular situation, and respond in gentleness instead of lashing out with frustration.

That’s when we know and see Christ in us. How exciting!

       ·         When conflict turns into harmony, instead of division.

       ·         When we feel an influx of gentleness (meekness), and anger backs off.

       ·         When the power of the devil is broken, and we see and feel peace within ourselves and in others.

       ·         When fear is conquered because with the help of Christ, we reached beyond it, to His promises.

We underestimate the power of meekness. His gentleness equals His mercy, which brought us the cross, the greatest act of love in history!
