Bible Commentary

Psalm 67:1-2 is a Bible passage and song of prayer and praise, which calls for God’s mercy, blessing and saving health.

Psalm 67 is short and to the point. See if you can find the underlying theme.

God be merciful unto us, and bless us; and cause his face to shine upon us; Selah.

2 That thy way may be known upon earth, thy saving health among all nations.

3 Let the people praise thee, O God; let all the people praise thee.

4 O let the nations be glad and sing for joy: for thou shalt judge the people righteously, and govern the nations upon earth. Selah.

5 Let the people praise thee, O God; let all the people praise thee.

6 Then shall the earth yield her increase; and God, even our own God, shall bless us.

7 God shall bless us; and all the ends of the earth shall fear him.

Even though it is full of prayer requests and praises, in the end it’s all about God. The prayers have a purpose, and that is that God will be known and feared among the people.

Unlocking the Truth – The Fear of the Lord

When we slow down and allow God to pass us up and get in the lead—in our decisions, work and daily tasks—then He is in complete control of the outcomes instead of us…far better. We can dot all the i’s and cross all the t’s, follow all the rules and proper protocol, but unless we’re doing it ultimately for His glory, it falls short. It has little power and little results. Why?

Because we’re in control (in the lead).

Sometimes we pray “for your glory, Lord” but is that what we really want in our hearts? Is that what we really mean, or do we secretly want the fame and honor—the reason we want a tremendous outcome from our service or work?
