…Song of Solomon 2:4 says, “and his banner over me was love.”

What does it mean by his banner? The Hebrew meaning is: flag; standard. This is what God declares over us. The flag, or symbol, over His people and followers of Christ is love.

We can think of the cross as a banner of love. People have been wearing and clinging to it ever since Christ died for us. The precious sacrifice of the cross is a representation of His unconditional love for us and therefore, is greatly cherished. It represents His mercy and forgiveness for all who come to Him.

In modern terminology, we might recognize the word “banner” from social media, where we see inspirational, informative and funny banners and memes. Their message represents an ideal or philosophy—whether political, spiritual or something else. It is like waving a flag, which is representative of that view or philosophy.

We create flags, or banners, over our own lives. What message are you displaying to others? What do you portray about your life, your view and philosophy? Does your banner align with God’s banner over you?

and his banner over me was love (Song of Solomon 2:4)

Be aware that the enemy also attempts to establish a banner over us. Since he came to steal, kill and destroy, it might be an illness, disease or even death. Remember, the devil is the father of lies.

To overcome the devil’s schemes, we must hone in and focus our mind like a laser beam on God’s banner over us, which is love. Love is the power that helps us overcome. (1 John 4:18)

Christ is our Groom

The Book of Song of Solomon was given to us as a proper example of a right relationship—courtship and marriage, but it is also written with the view of Christ as our groom and the church (us) as the bride.

So, when Song of Solomon 2:4 says, “He brought me to the banqueting house, and his banner over me was love,” He is talking about us—the church.

We must cling to the truth about what God says about us and what He has established over us by way of the cross–Jesus Christ.

His banner over us is love. Not fear, not death, not destruction or disease.

We might only be able to see, hear and feel the enemy’s banner, but let’s align ourselves with God’s banner over us and reach out by faith for what we can’t see, hear or feel. His banner over me is love.

The book, Faith-Based Solutions: Believing Your Way to Wealth was written on this very premise. We pray it will help you visualize and grasp God’s perfect love for you.

Study the Bible verse of Song of Solomon 2:4, believe His banner of love over you as He leads you to the banqueting house.
