Zephaniah 3:17 (NKJV)

The Lord your God in your midst,
The Mighty One, will save;
He will rejoice over you with gladness,
He will quiet you with His love,
He will rejoice over you with singing.”

Unlocking the Truth - Quiet Love

The next part of Zephaniah 3:17 is especially intriguing:

He will quiet you with His love

Various Bible versions phrase it differently, but the key word is “quiet” or “rest” which in Hebrew means: cease, be quiet, keep silence and hold tongue.

If we could pull back the curtains of the physical and peer into the spiritual, we would see chaotic winds howling over us—the noise of the world telling us what to do, to hurry here and there, and voices of expectations from our past or present.

The sound is ever so subtle, but it is there. What we take in is usually what we give out, including the noise of expectations and the busyness of activity, for example. The things we lean upon also lean on us, so-to-speak.

That is why Zephaniah is exceedingly comforting when it says,

He will quiet you with His love

There is an amazing rest in the quietness of His love. He mercifully commands the winds of chaos to keep silence. The peace of God is beyond our understanding, and it keeps our hearts and minds (Philippians 4:7).

When He mercifully holds back the clamoring of the world our mind is eased by the quiet, and as that sweet peace rolls in we can be silent from thoughts and words of judgment, suspicion and profanity.

What results from this peace and quiet is the last line of Zephaniah 3:17,

He will rejoice over you with singing.

Then as the songs of Heaven sound over us, we’ll be able to hear them. We’ll be able to hear the Lord of Heaven rejoicing over us, singing over us.

Study the Bible verse of Zephaniah 3:17, and meditate on the wonders of the Lord's salvation, so you can hear Him rejoicing over you.
